NHS Health Checks

We offer a Health Check to patients between 40 – 74 to check blood pressure, raised cholesterol and any signs of early diabetes along with lifestyle advice. This health check is offered every 5 years to those patients who do not already have heart problems, diabetes or monitoring for raised blood pressure.
Please phone the surgery to see if you are eligible and to make an appointment.

Going on Holiday?

The Nurses at Crick Medical Practice are able to advise on how best to ensure that your holiday will be a safe, healthy and happy trip.

Simple precautions include adequate sun protection, avoiding risky activities that may lead to accidents, taking care with food and water, and preventing insect bites.

VACCINATIONS: Some travellers may require vaccinations for their chosen destination, and these patients should seek advice from the surgery 6-8 weeks prior to departure.

Patients, who have received travel vaccinations in the past, should also consult the surgery, as the recommendations for different countries vary and additional vaccines or booster doses may be required.

Last-minute travellers should also seek advice, as vaccines given late are better than no protection at all. For travellers planning to visit multiple destinations e.g. back-packers or frequent/long stay visitors, a more detailed consultation will be required, ideally at least 3 months before departure.

Prescribing of medicines to treat minor illnesses is changing! Medicines which are available to buy will no longer be routinely prescribed for the following conditions:

Acute Sore Throat, Conjunctivitis, Coughs and Colds, Mild irritant dermatitis, Cradle Cap, Dandruff, Diarrhoea (Adults), Mouth Ulcers, Dry eyes, Earwax, Excessive Sweating, Oral thrush, Haemorrhoids head lice, Indigestion and Heartburn, Sunburn, Infant colic, Cold sores of the lip, Infrequent Constipation, Threadworms, Infrequent migraine, Insect bites and stings, Mild acne, Mild to moderate hay fever, Minor burns and scalds, Mild Cystitis, Mild dry skin, Nappy rash, Minor Pain (aches and sprains, headache) Warts and verrucae, travel sickness, Prevention of tooth decay, Teething, Ringworm/Athletes foot and Sun Protection.

Why is it changing?

These common conditions can be treated at home with items that can be bought from pharmacies, local shops or supermarkets. As you will not need an appointment at your GP surgery to obtain a prescription this will save you time. It will also free up appointments for patients with more serious conditions.
